Safety Engineering

Safety is not an afterthought. Deep Serena® applies safety-critical engineering principles — borrowed from aerospace, nuclear, and defense domains — to the design, validation, and supervision of Frontier AI systems.

◎

Human Oversight

Autonomous AI systems developed by Deep Serena® are designed with independent supervision architectures that ensure human operators retain meaningful control over mission-critical decisions at all times.

⬡

Sovereignty & Privacy

Deep Serena® systems are designed for sovereign deployment within the customer's controlled infrastructure. Proprietary data, models, and generated intellectual assets remain under the organization's control.

◈

Transparency

We are committed to being transparent about what Deep Serena® is, what it does, and what it does not yet claim. No certification, accreditation, or regulatory approval is asserted unless formally documented.

01 —Our Approach to Responsible AI

Deep Serena® was conceived with the conviction that Frontier AI for defense and critical industries must be engineered with the same rigor applied to safety-critical physical systems. Our approach integrates safety, security, and cybersecurity not as compliance layers but as core architectural properties.

We develop AI systems designed to operate under uncertainty, in environments characterized by sparse data, rare events, and high-consequence outcomes. This demands a fundamentally different engineering philosophy from conventional AI development.

02 —Human Oversight and Control

Deep Serena® systems incorporate independent supervision chains — multiple complementary layers of control designed to prevent single points of failure and to maintain human authority over autonomous systems.

We are committed to the principle that AI systems deployed in defense and mission-critical contexts must not autonomously substitute for human judgment in decisions with irreversible or life-affecting consequences.

  • Multi-layer autonomous supervision architectures
  • Independent inspection layers reducing single points of failure
  • Human-in-the-loop decision support for high-consequence outcomes
  • Full traceability and auditability of AI system behavior
  • Controllability and safe shutdown capabilities by design

03 —Safety-Critical Engineering

Deep Serena® applies rare-event engineering, uncertainty quantification, and safety-critical design methodologies to AI systems. Our approach draws on established disciplines from nuclear safety, aerospace systems engineering, and defense system assurance.

Key safety engineering commitments include:

  • Uncertainty quantification integrated into model design and inference
  • Failure mode analysis and rare-event risk characterization
  • Independent validation layers with separate evaluation chains
  • Systematic documentation of model limitations and uncertainty bounds
  • Continuous monitoring and anomaly detection in deployed systems

04 —Dual-Use Technology Responsibility

Deep Serena® explicitly operates in the dual-use deeptech space — at the intersection of civilian and defense applications. We take seriously the ethical obligations this entails.

We are committed to:

  • Selecting partners and customers whose use cases are aligned with legitimate defense, security, and critical infrastructure purposes
  • Not developing or enabling autonomous lethal decision systems without meaningful human oversight
  • Operating within the legal and regulatory frameworks of France and the European Union
  • Engaging constructively with evolving EU AI Act frameworks and defense-sector AI governance

05 —What We Do Not Claim

Intellectual honesty is a core commitment of Deep Serena®. We explicitly do not claim:

  • NATO certification or approval — not claimed
  • EU AI Act certification — not claimed (the regulatory framework is still being implemented)
  • ISO 27001, ISO 42001, or any other ISO certification — not claimed at this stage
  • NIS2 compliance certification — not claimed
  • French government or DGA approval — not claimed
  • Any other accreditation or regulatory approval not explicitly documented

We describe principles and engineering commitments. We do not substitute aspirational statements for verified compliance. Any future certifications or regulatory approvals will be explicitly documented and verified before being communicated publicly.

06 —Environmental and Societal Responsibility

Deep Serena® acknowledges the significant computational resources required by Frontier AI systems and is committed to considering energy efficiency, environmental impact, and responsible resource utilization as design criteria — not afterthoughts.

We are committed to contributing to the broader AI safety and security research community and to supporting open scientific dialogue where national security considerations permit.

07 —Governance and Evolution

These principles will be formalized into binding internal governance policies following the formal incorporation of Serena Technologies. They will be reviewed and updated as the project develops, as regulations evolve, and as the team grows.

Deep Serena® is committed to the ongoing development and strengthening of its responsible AI governance as an integral part of its institutional maturation.
